Teen emPower!

Providing high-quality sexual health education for middle and high school youth can be a complex organizational mission, especially when fundraising in a more conservative part of the country. For over twenty years, Teen emPower! (TEI) has been tackling this subject with amazing reductions in teen pregnancy, greater teen knowledge of setting boundaries, understanding healthy relationships, and managing peer pressure through school-based programs taught by educated high school peer facilitators. Counting on governmental and local grants and not much else, TEI found themselves at the mercy of grant funders leaving them vulnerable. That is where an Empower consultant was engaged to help.

Working with the TEI board of directors and staff during their annual board retreat, Empower’s consultant conducted a fundraising mini workshop to help lay the groundwork for a more sustainable fundraising plan.

“While not a traditional project for Empower, being a small nonprofit consulting firm gives us flexibility to meet the clients where they most need our services. And having an expert in fundraising volunteer their time to this project made it a win-win-win for TEI, the consultant, and Empower.”

Now, armed with a better understanding of how fundraising fits into TEI’s organizational plan, the board is emboldened to dream big while also being part of the sustainability of the organization’s mission.
